What I Wore: Black Widow Pinup

You know those DC Bombshell figures that are absolutely adorable? Well, being a Marvel girl myself, I wanted to embody that beautiful pin up vibe when putting together my casual cosplay ensemble for our most recent Geek Girl Brunch event. I knew we were going to be outside in the South Florida humidity, so it was important to dress as cool and comfortable as I could while still looking cute. It was tough to settle on a character, but I finally decided on Black Widow. At first, her character was not what it could be in the films, but after watching Civil War, I was so happy to see her flashing her badassery without abandon. Girl freaking power.

What I Wore: Knope Knows

I can’t really explain being a mommy because I feel like it never makes any sense unless you are a mom yourself. I know before I was a mom, I didn’t understand when people would tell me they were wrecked, but so infinitely happy. What? How is that possible? Isn’t a full 8 hours of sleep and weekly mental health days needed to live a happy life? Haha.

I am the most tired and overwhelmed I have ever felt in my entire life. I have no idea what time is because I have zero of it. I have not seen the latest blockbuster and haven’t visited the newest Miami hot spot. Three drinks no longer get me drunk, they get me sleepy. My roots are basically down to my ears and I am covered in white hairs. My eyebrows haven’t been plucked in months and my nail polish is constantly chipped (or not there at all). I have bags under my eyes for the first time in my life. I can barely keep up with work and am absent from most social functions. Short skirts are no longer a part of my wardrobe.

But I’m the happiest I have ever been. See what I mean? It makes no sense.
But that’s just the way it is. I see the world with new, shinier and sparklier lenses. I have a reason to do everything I do besides for myself (which, don’t get me wrong, is more than enough). And I feel love and appreciation in such powerful ways on a daily basis that I can say with 100% certainty I never felt before. There is a smile on my face more days than not, and it’s so nice.

Last year was my first Mother’s Day as a mommy, even though little Luna was still in my belly. It was the day we revealed the gender to my close family and I remember it being such a special day. This year, I actually have a little one to hold and love and call my own. What a difference a year makes! I’ve learned so much since then, about so many things – one of which is leggings are a mom’s best friend.

What I Wore: Hello Sweetie

What does one wear when going to meet a Time Lord?
That is what I had to ask myself last week when I was getting ready for our Geek Girl Brunch Pride, Prejudice and Zombies advanced screening. My co-chapter officer, Aurora, works in journalism, so she was able to secure this amazing event for our brunchettes and had us in the front seat: nabbing a quick meet and greet session with the stars of the movie before the theater Q&A. That meant I was going to meet Matt Smith: the 11th Doctor. My 2nd favorite Doctor. This is a huge deal for us Whovians and you could definitely smell the excitement (aside from everyone’s giant smiles and audible squee’s, of course).

Naturally, I went with sparkles because of who I am as a person. No, if I’m being honest, I definitely needed to wear this amazing tee from Jordan Dene but wanted to dress it up a bit. Thankfully, it was loose enough to fit another (sparkly) shirt underneath. The sequined collar and sleeves totally transformed the look! I paired it with my favorite new pleather leggings (because I’m Regina George-ing my 4th trimester), and the most incredible faux fur vest because it was cold in Miami for once!

What I Wore: Luna Adventures

Hi everyone! I hope you had a killer holiday break – I know I did! My hubs’ employer was amazing enough to gift him with nearly 2 weeks paid leave during the holidays so that he could spend it with us! I can’t tell you how nice it was to have him around to help, and to be able to go out on the town as a family. Luna loves to be out (wonder who she got that from) and we had such fun days together.

Although I’m bummed that I have to face reality soon (my leave ends in 2 weeks), I’m so ready to tackle this year! I love my new role as a mom, and look forward to learning how to balance and have it all in 2016. Here’s to new adventures!
