When you have recently had a baby, it can be hard to focus on you as you are so wrapped up in the new little life. However, you are important to, and your baby needs you to be healthy so that you can take care of them. But, we know that it is difficult, and this can also be the case when you are pregnant depending on what your pregnancy is like. In this article, we are going to be looking at some of the things that you can do to keep yourself healthy during pregnancy and beyond, so keep reading if you would like to find out more.
Take Walks
The first thing that we are going to suggest is that you take walks. You are not going to be able to complete any kind of strenuous physical activity, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t keep fit. It’s important that you are doing this as often as you can so that your body is still getting the physical activity that it needs. When you are pregnant it might be a little difficult the closer to your due date that you get, but you need to try and persevere unless advised otherwise by your doctor. Walks can be massively beneficial to your health, so avoiding them is not a good idea.
Once you have given birth, you can take your little one out in the pushchair which is a great reason to get outside. They need to experience the world and so do you, so walking together is a great form of exercise. Or, you can have them in a baby carrier and have them against your chest while you walk. This is fantastic for bonding and getting in those steps.
Eat The Right Food
Another thing that you are going to need to do is ensure that you are eating the right kinds of food. We know that sometimes when you are pregnant this can be extremely difficult. Some pregnancies make you feel ill no matter what you eat, while others have safe foods and unsafe foods. You just need to do your best with what you can, and get some fruits and vegetables into your diet. Even if you are craving something, if you know that it isn’t healthy for you, we recommend that you try to limit the amount that you consume. We understand that this can be difficult, but it’s important that you do your best.
Plan out the food that you are going to eat if you think that it will help you to get the nutrients that you need. Plan out your breakfast, lunch and dinner, and this is going to be helpful when your little one gets a little older as they will be eating with you.
Sleep When You Can
A lot of you new moms will probably be laughing at this one, but you need to sleep when you can. Throughout pregnancy and beyond this can be a challenge at the best of times. Pregnancy challenges with sleep include being uncomfortable, having a foot in your ribs, heartburn and generally not being able to fall asleep. When you have your baby, they are up every couple of hours, meaning that so are you. The general advice is that you should try to sleep when the baby sleeps, but you still have a house to maintain, showers to take and so on, which makes things kind of difficult.
Even though all of this is true, you need to sleep. Without sleep, you are no good to your child, and you are putting your body at risk. Ideally, an adult needs around seven hours of sleep per night, which isn’t going to happen when you have a newborn. This is why it is so important to get those hours in wherever you can. Even if you just have a quick half an hour nap when the baby is asleep and put the chores off until later. You can clean up the dishes at any point throughout the day, those hours of sleep are precious.
Medical Help
At times, you are going to need to seek medical help and you should not be afraid to do so. When you are pregnant you will have regular visits with your doctor to ensure that everything is going smoothly and that you are both healthy. This is normal, and they will be able to detect some issues when they arise so they can be treated. Also, when the baby is born, mom and baby are going to be checked every so often by the doctors to make sure that everything is well. This means that you will have your blood pressure checked, if you had a caesarean they will check that the incision is healing properly and so on. The baby will be weighed to ensure that they are gaining weight and a range of other checks will also be conducted.
If you have had a bad birthing experience that has left you injured though, you need to do something about it. Sometimes this happens and it is nobody’s fault, but in some cases negligence has played a part. It’s in these cases that you need to take action and look at birth trauma lawyers.
