where-the-wild-things-are1

I’m excited to announce that I have yet another kick-ass giveaway to host this week thanks to Filter Magazine! One of the year’s best movies, Where the Wild Things Are, is being released today on DVD and Blu-Ray and I’m giving you a chance to win the movie’s amazing soundtrack along with a few other little goodies!

In case you didn’t hear all the rave reviews about the movie’s soundtrack, it is chock full of original music by Yeah Yeah Yeah’s lead singer, Karen O, and “the kids.” It’s one of the sweetest, most uplifting albums you will probably ever own – I know every time I listen to it, I can’t help but smile. Even on my worst days.

Check out the following awesome video where Karen O explains the tracks on the album & their inspiration:

Where the Wild Things Are soundtrack is available now courtesy of Interscope http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?id=332280698&s=143441

My giveaway bundle includes the following:

1 Where The Wild Things Are Soundtrack
1 paper crown (as seen all around Comic-Con last year!)
1 Carol Mask

If you’d like to enter to win, first, go to Twitter and if you don’t already have an account there, set one up. It’s free. Then follow me – SoMelificent. Go to http://www.twitter.com/somelificent and click on the follow button that appears under my profile.

1. 1st Volume of the Pumpkins' Teargarden by Kaleidyscope

1. 1st Volume of the Pumpkins' Teargarden by Kaleidyscope

I know that I had mentioned that I was mad at Billy Corgan for his “relationship” with Jessica Simpson (he now states he was only spending time with her because he was doing the theme song for her new VH1 show…hmph), but I can never be mad at his music. So far, the two new releases off the Smashing Pumpkins’ new album, Teargarden by Kaleidyscope, have been amazing as usual. They are being released for free (you can download them here), but knowing that there will be those rabid fans that need a physical release to cherish for years, Corgan decided to have special edition box sets. The first one will be available on April 20th and is now available for pre-order. Each box contains a 4-song CD, a 7″ vinyl single (containing a new song and a B-Side), and a hand-carved “leopard stone” obelisk, about 2″ tall, similar to marble (??). You know I’ll be placing my order!

Lovable Friday!

Friday, January 8th, 2010

It’s been awhile since I’ve compiled a Lovable Friday due to the holidays! Unfortunately, not a very lovable Friday for me. I’ve been pretty sick the entire week. I guess I’m not cut out for this 40 degree weather in Miami!

1. CB2 opening in South Beach

Words cannot describe how happy this makes me! South Florida seems to always be the last to get amazing stores: we recently got West Elm and IKEA after years of lusting from afar and have yet to see an H&M (one in Orlando just opened several months ago). I cannot wait to take advantage of their fabulous sales without having to tack on those nasty shipping charges! And just in time for our new home too! The store opens in Lincoln Road Mall on January 14th. See you there ;)

Favorite movie:

District 9
I knew I was going to love this movie when I attended the panel at Comic-Con, but I don’t think I was ready for how it would affect me. This movie was mind-blowing, not only with special effects, but also with its storyline and message.

Star Trek
Although not a trekker in the least bit, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. Be it due to Zachary Quinto, J.J. Abrams or Zachary Quinto, I really don’t know. All I know is that it was absolutely entertaining and I didn’t mind watching it three times in a theater.

1. Tim Burton's Installment at the MoMA

1. Tim Burton's Installment at the MoMA

Is it now considered cliche to love Tim Burton? How Hot Topic of me. I am, as always, envious of all New York City residents because now they can see this exhibit at the MoMA until April of 2010. The exhibit includes props from his movies, sketches and amazing designs from one of the most creative minds in Hollywood (in my opinion anyways). I’ve begged the hubs to take me on a weekend trip to NYC just so I can hit up this event. Anyone that has gone or is going, please feel me in so I can live vicariously through you!
