What I Wore; Dream Big, Princess

IMG_4088

That newfound love of Disney through the eyes of my child has given me a whole new fandom to explore in regards to outfits, and man, am I having fun. I love that you can wave your freak flag high and proud at Disney and no one bats an eyelash. In fact, it is encouraged. Whenever that is the case, I take this privilege and run with it. Case in point: I bought the most ridiculously large and loud Minnie ears and rocked them for the day at Magic Kingdom. I can’t wait to delve deeper into Disney fashion, but for now I can state with 100% certainty that comfy leggings are the way to go when you are visiting the parks with an insanely active toddler.

Life with Luna: Tiny Wizard

IMG_3980

Although this would mean we birthed a Hufflepuff {gasp!}, my little Luna reminds me a lot of Newt Scamander. She loves animals: all of them. She gets beyond excited whenever she sees a dog or a cat (just recently even said “cat” for the first time), and is a big fan of nature in general. She squeals on our walks whenever she sees an especially lush or tall tree – bonus points if it is swaying in the wind. There’s just so much wonder in those eyes, and I know this is something that is found in all children. Only a certain handful of adults get a chance to carry this with them as they age, and Newt is definitely one of them. I hope she can fit into that elite little group down the line as well.

Onesie; c/o Younglings NYC
Pants; Target {no longer available}
Denim blouse; Old Navy {similar}
Wand; Wizarding World of Harry Potter

Can I also share how magical it truly was to see Luna holding one of my wands? I can’t wait until we can take her to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, and she can fully grasp the context!

What I Wore: My Little Meli

IMG_3912

Geek Girl Brunch Miami joined forces with The Florida Panthers last weekend and we were able to watch the game from Sir Stanley’s Loft, which had the most incredible views. Since we’ve had the most mild “winter” I can remember, I haven’t been able to sport any of my cold weather clothes, so I took this opportunity to finally wear my most amazing My Little Pony jacket. Geek Girl Brunch always has a theme attached to its events in one way or another, so we decided to all wear our favorite wigs to the game. I’ve been obsessed with having lavender hair for awhile now so my Lumpy Space Princess wig was my immediate go-to. Plus, it matched perfectly with the fun, bright colors of the jacket.

Welcome to Wonderland: Decal How To

I grew up very much a Disney kid. When asked if I wanted the traditional “quinces” party, I asked if I could take a couple of friends to Disney for the weekend instead. I watched Aladdin and The Lion King about 5 times each in the theater. I dreamed of being Ariel…well, I still dream of being Ariel. You get the point.

Somewhere along the way, I no longer followed Disney and stopped visiting the parks. I think it mainly had to do with Islands of Adventure opening at Universal and being drawn to a more “adult driven” park. The second Wizarding World opened, it was all over. I never went to Disney. But, when I had little Luna, things changed. I remembered my happy Disney memories from when I was a kid and I wanted her to have the same. Say what you will about princess culture, because all it taught me was to never stop dreaming and to never give up on those dreams.

That’s why I’m so happy that little Luna is a brand representative for Welcome to Wonderland! It’s a great small local shop that caters to all us Disney loving mamas and kids. One of my favorite products are their decals. I like them because you feel like you are in part a maker yourself. Sure, the shop made the decal, but there is still an element of DIY there, and that makes my little heart happy. I thought I would share with you all how easy it is to use these decals to make your own Disney-ready outfits!

I started with some easy to find plain white Gerber tees on Amazon. I ironed them first so that they were nice and flat: perfect to apply the decal. When they were cool to the touch, I put the decal’s sticky side down on the tee and the parchment paper it came in over the decal.

How To Throw A Magical Harry Potter Party

potterparty

I used to host many a themed party before baby, but we just recently had a small get together to watch the new Sherlock season (!!!) and low and behold, Luna slept through the entire thing! It has made us hopeful that we can begin hosting again because it really was one of our favorite things to do as a couple. As many of you know, I am the founding officer of Geek Girl Brunch Miami, and for now live out my themed party fantasies through our monthly brunches and events. I thought I would share with you some of my ideas for different themes, and if you guys dig it, it could become a permanent staple here on the blog.

Sorting Drinks; the great thing about having sorting beverages is that it can be used for both an adult party (booze – woo!) or for children. It’s a lot more fun than a sorting hat and gives photographic proof that you were sorted into the right (or wrong) house. A little bit of food coloring is masked under some ice and as the drink is poured, your fate is revealed! {source}
Chamber of Secrets mirror; the thing about Harry Potter is that it is pretty creepy when it wants to be. The Chamber of Secrets warning written in red lipstick on your bathroom mirror will do the trick! This was done at the Books + Books Cursed Child release party and it was so fun. 10 points to Gryffindor for simplicity too. {source}
Floating Acceptance Letters; probably one of the most iconic scenes in the Potter films is when Harry is attacked by billions of flying acceptance letters to Hogwarts. And lets face it, it’s probably one of your deepest and darkest fantasies to experience the same (ok, not so deep or dark). Make it a photo op by hanging some letters of your own off of fishing wire. Again, Books + Books killed it with this at their party, and in turn, made for one of my favorite photos of myself. {source}
Broomstick Munchies; it’s always good to have snacks at any party, and if you can theme them too, then even better! These cuties are made with pretzel sticks and some cheese. {source}
Quidditch Beer Pong; this has been the dream ever since we first saw someone put it together. I really wish I could say that we have tried this in the past, but we have yet to do so! I think we should stop procrastinating and just get to it already. Birthday 2017 challenge? Accepted. {source}
Wanted Poster; I recreated the famous Sirius Black wanted poster for my friend’s bachelorette party and it came out killer! It was the absolute best way to start off our nights of debauchery and is a real ice breaker if your guests don’t know each other well. {source}
