SheCon ’11

So so so excited for this one! My new buddy, Becca, let me know that there was going to be a conference for female bloggers taking place in Weston, FL this year. I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to jump in the proverbial water and go after my 2011 goals. Although I have to be completely honest, I am a little nervous. Selling myself is something that I still have not perfected, and although I am outgoing and really enjoy meeting new people, I can retract a bit when something important is on the line (damned anxiety). However, I am working on that self-confidence, and know I have something good going here. Right?

I am also really looking forward to the panels, as I’m going to be learning a lot of very useful information about how to make my blog even more successful, interesting and focused. Happy Hump Day: Ryan Gosling

I can’t believe I had yet to feature Ryan Gosling! A big up to my girl, Ang, for making the suggestion! Although I refuse to see The Notebook (yes, I’m probably the only female that hasn’t), I absolutely loved his work in Lars and the Real Girl. There is something very unassuming about Ryan, which I love. He’s not this Hollywood pretty boy – at least not in his head. Gotta love a guy that doesn’t let all that glitz and glam get to him. Well, at least let’s hope that he stays that way after the critical acclaim of his new film, Blue Valentine, with Michelle Williams, as well as a Golden Globe nomination. When will Miami be included in that limited release, by the by?? Not fair.

{30 Days of Fashion}: Day 11

January 11th, 2011:

I was hitting the streets today for my job (I drive a lot. A whole lot), so I needed to wear something that would be comfy, but stylish. I was going to be spending a lot of time in my car, but also at schools and foster homes so I couldn’t look a mess either. I think a pair of skinny jeans with a 3/4 length tee always seems to do the trick when going for trendy casual. I really loved the nautical stripes and boatneck of this tee – really stood out while I was thrashing through what seemed like miles and miles of clothing racks at my local Marshall’s. I especially love that you can either wear it as pictured, or off the shoulder if you are feeling especially Molly Ringwald at the moment. My automatic reaction when wearing blue or navy nautical stripes is to pair it with red accessories. You just can never go wrong!

On an aside, kind of nuts that I can already see a change in my body after a week and a half of steady dieting and spinning. Definitely a motivator to keep me going!

Didn’t realize I was rocking a head-to-toe Tarjay outfit today until I put together this post! Who says you can’t put together an amazing ensemble on a budget? Happy to be able to wear this dress again – the first time I wore it was sans tights and I felt like I was a little too old to be baring so much leg. Tights to the rescue! I paired it with my favorite flats (told you guys I wear them a lot) and a fun skeleton key necklace that I made on the fly that morning with an old chain and an Etsy purchase. Voila! Another cheery outfit for a not-so-cheery day. I had a pretty tedious day in the office and then got my butt handed to me on a silver platter by a new spinning instructor. Oof.

And for those of you wondering, the soundtrack to these photos was The White Stripes. Hotel Yorba to be exact. 😉

2011 Walk Now for Autism

I know I usually post about sunshine and rainbows on this blog, but every now and then, it’s time to get serious. This would be one of those times. As you know, autism and both the children and families it affects are very near and dear to my heart. For this reason, I am participating in the Autism Speaks: Walk Now for Autism in Key Biscayne on Sunday, February 27th. This year, rather than just ask for donations, I wanted to make it more of an event. I would love for those interested to join my team, Team Melificent, in the physical walk. If I get enough parties to join, I am planning on making team tshirts, so that we are really seen as a collective unit fighting towards a cure.

I hope some of you can walk with us, or at least donate to this important cause.
