5 Fandom Friday: Favorite Fictional Couples I Ship

Happy early Valentines, everyone! Although I’m not the biggest fan of the holiday, I truly love love. I am a sucker for romance and am an idealistic dreamer when it comes to all things that revolve around that 4-letter L word. I spent many a Valentines Day saddened by unrealistic expectations until I realized that the holiday is just about love. Loving yourself. Loving your family. Loving your friends. And, of course, loving your significant other. It’s a time to step back and realize how much love there is in your life, regardless of relationship status, and that makes it an absolutely beautiful day, doesn’t it?

Now onto this week’s list! I get very attached to fictional characters, so it is no surprise that their equally fictitious relationships could also have quite the effect on me. Here are my top 5 OTP’s (One True Pairing);

“Together or not at all.”

1. Rory & Amy {Doctor Who}; By far one of my favorite fictional couples! I don’t like it when relationships are portrayed as being “perfect” on TV or in films. I really appreciate flawed characters, so I felt like their relationship was really well…relatable. I definitely see a lot of me in Amy, and a lot of my husband in Rory, so that may be a big part of why they are my number one (our wifi password is “theponds”). Their entire storyline was genius (plot holes and all) and had a knack for moving me to tears every.single.time. I mean, when was the last time someone pulled apart time for you? Exactly. That’s love, people.

Nerdy Must Haves

1; Tardis serving tray: So I may not be using this tray to serve afternoon tea (lets be real, it would be more like mid-day cocktails), but it would still make the absolute cutest geeky addition to a home. Like mine. Just sayin’. Buying it. What?
2; Discord Pop figure: I have to say that Discord is my favorite MLP character. No surprise there, I love me a bad guy. But real talk: isn’t he the cutest? I clearly need him in Funko form. Reality: I have no room in my home for any more pop figures and have a genuine fear that they might take over my life. Are there any support groups out there yet?
3; Rocket Raccoon tank: Cutest.Tank.Ever. Rocket & Groot were my favorite characters from Guardians of the Galaxy, so naturally this tank is a top must have. What kills me are the fuzzy ears and tail that come attached. They totally beg for whiskers and fangs to complete the look. Even more of a draw? It makes it perfect and easy to participate in some everyday cosplay, whether it be for a Disney visit or a convention!
4; Doctor Who hoodie: OK, I know what you are thinking – “I’m so sick of all this TARDIS merchandise.” Most of the time, I can agree, but I love this more discrete Doctor Who hoodie. The varsity style really makes it wearable and the slight nods to the fandom, such as the 63 to honor the year the show began, make it a nice touch for those in the know.

Nerdy Must Haves

It’s time for yet another episode of Nerdy Must Haves.
With the holiday season slowly creeping upon us, there is even more geeky goodness for us to feast our eyes on. This can be both overwhelming and awesome all at once for a shopaholic like myself, and just downright tragic for my wallet. Oh well, someone’s gotta live this coveted geek life, amirite?

Clockwise from top left;

1. Darth Vader studs; Her Universe slays it again with this pair of understated yet bad ass black hermatite Darth Vader studs. One way to remind others that the Dark Side has a classy side as well.
2. Marvel ugly sweater; I’m pretty sure I’ll be attending my first ugly sweater party this year, so I was pumped. Now, everyone knows doing flat out ugly just isn’t my thing, but this Marvel sweater? It was just all sorts of perfect. I can rock the geek chic while still being a little tacky (I mean, excessive patterning anyone?).
3. Tardis in space tote; I am so digging this subtle design. The more and more I work in my field of behavior analysis, the more I appreciate a good tote bag. You tend to accumulate all sorts of toys, reinforcers and general fun stuff as you grow as a therapist so I have multiple totes that I…well…tote around often. I can definitely see myself rocking this one to some of my sessions (hoping and praying someone would get the reference).
4. Sailor Moon body con skirt; I’m pretty sure this isn’t the first time I feature a Sailor Moon body con related item, but I just can’t help myself. I’m an addict and I’m OK with that. If I could permanently dress up as a Sailor Scout I would, and I’m pretty sure that’s an acceptable life decision. I mean, I’m an adult. Other adults feel the same because the skirt is currently sold out. Wah!

What I Wore: We’re All Stories in the End

I love pairing fandom tees and accessories with trendy pieces. I feel like it gives your geeky side a subtle nod without going overboard. Plus, it is so fun to put the two together! Often, people don’t think you can make geeky wear fashionable, but I beg to differ. I do it on a daily basis, and I honestly love that unless you are another fan, most people will just glide over the reference. That makes those fellow fan encounters even more special!

This is pretty easy to do with Jordan’s line of quotable tees. This one in particular was a must have for me since it is one of my favorite Doctor Who quotes. Tennant may be my doctor, but you have to admit that Smith had some amazing one liners. I love the typography and the fit of her basic tees. It makes it so easy to pair with anything – even this eccentric (but AMAZING) celestial kimono cardigan.
