Think Pink!

Now that we are in the process of applying for a loan (not fun) and scheduling a home inspection, the prospect of finally owning a home is starting to sink in. Although it is not official yet, I’m letting myself start gathering inspiration and start thinking of how I’d like to decorate the house. I can’t help myself – it’s so fun! Not to mention something I have been dreaming about for quite some time now. In order to minimize arguments, the hubs and I have decided to split the two extra bedrooms. The hubs takes one, I take one. We can decorate that room in whatever way we wish and then collaborate for the rest of the house. We decided almost instantaneously: the hubs would claim the office and I would tackle the guest room. Sorry guys, no baby room for a couple more years! 😉

I’ve always wanted to have a bright pink kitschy room. What better to house our guests (or ridiculously drunk friends that can’t drive home) than a bright, sunshine-y room that makes you smile? Absolutely nothing! These are some great inspiration pictures that I have collected that are helping me get my thoughts together on what I’d like to do:

I also just recently bought this flippin’ amazing cuckoo clock off my new favorite online store, PlasticLand:

How great would this look in my future room?? The best part is the price – I couldn’t believe it was only $15!! Made me a little more hopeful that I will be able to find hip alternatives to more high end decor items.

Lonny Mag

Picture 5

I’ve always loved collecting ideas for inspiration. While I was planning my wedding, I scoured the Internet and had a whole set on Flickr with thousands of photos I had found and subscribed to countless wedding magazines. After the wedding was over, I moved my focus to home decor. I also started a similar set, but have struggled to find the right magazine. I used to love Domino and Blueprint, but both were discontinued. I tried Martha Stewart, but it just didn’t have the edge I was looking for. My hubby has brought me home countless different magazines he thought I would enjoy, but none did “it” for me. But after hearing about Lonny Magazine on one of my many decor blogs, I think I have found “the one.” The magazine just launched last month and covers the world of home decor, fashion and day to day living. Plus, it seems targeted at a younger audience and features bolder design styles. The only downside for me is that it is only available online, which I’m sure is a great feature for others, but I personally like flipping through pages and marking my favorites.

Check out some more images from Lonny Magazine’s December issue and make sure to bookmark their site:

Fu You!

IMG_9260

Earlier this week, I could hear the Target Dollar Spot calling my name as I ran in for some quick errands. I knew I was bound to find something amazing and my hunch was right on target (no pun intended)! I have been searching for a pair of Fu Dogs for a very very long time and although they are relatively easy to find, they tend to be overpriced (at least in my opinion). I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw a whole stack of them labeled as only being $2.50! At first, in my fit of joy, I grabbed a whole fist full of the little guys before settling on only a pair. However, I was disappointed. They were this ugly bronze color and everyone knows that Fu Dogs have to painted some sort of vibrant color to really pop in a space. That’s when I decided to undertake a fun little DIY project!

I headed to Pearl’s during my lunch hour and took one of the little pups with me. I asked one of the employees to help me select the best kind of spray paint that would really adhere to the figurine. Because they are plastic, she suggested Krylon’s Fusion, which is specially made for plastic and claims to dry in 15 minutes or less. Unfortunately, their color selection wasn’t all that extensive, leaving me struggling between the bright blue or yellow. Finally, thinking of all our current decor, I swiped the blue and headed back.

I am so happy with the way they turned out! But what makes the budget shopper in me really swell with pride is that I managed to create a hip and funky look for less than $10 total. I could definitely see myself getting hooked on all these projects when we get our new home. Painting, crafting, and creating in general is such a form of stress relief for me and I have really missed it since I ended my wedding planning (these would have totally fit the theme by the way). I really have to make an effort to be as creative as I can even though life tends to sneak up on me more than I’d like it to.

Until the next project….have a great weekend, everyone! Ours looks like it is going to be jam packed with goodness!

Some of my favorite things

Back for another edition of some of my favorite things.
As some of you can tell, I haven’t been having one of the best weeks, so it’s always nice to look at pretty & desirable items to decrease those feelings of mass murder. At least, it works for me.

So I received the latest CB2 catalog and am going to run down some of my fav’s. Some issues are not all that impressive, but this time around called for me to whip out the permanent marker and go crazy with the circling. You’ve been warned!

Engineer Dining Table

Engineer Dining Table – $399

I love the raw look of this table and think it would look amazing as a dining room table in a really modern space. And that price! Diggin’ it!

CityScape Shower Curtain

Cityscape Shower Curtain – $39.99

I’m always on the lookout for a new hip shower curtain and this one is lovely. Unfortunately, our CBGB curtain is on its last legs and I think this one with its bright yellow elements would look great in our mainly grey bathroom.

Desktop Chalkboard

Desktop Chalkboard – $14.95

Being a fan of chalkboard-anything, I think this is an adorable idea. Maybe not for the office-office, but definitely a cute statement for a home office.

Squee-Worthy: High Gloss White Floors

3592860717_981abc5b96

I would have never thought that I would like white flooring. It gets dirty so easily, it’s boring and…well…it’s white! There’s nothing I love more than a warm wood floor, but now I’m definitely rethinking my design aesthetic. I mean, check out these beautiful floors!

11-4-gloss

The stunning white floors definitely give an open and brightly lit space that extra kick and have the ability to either pump up the modern factor or play into shabby chic decor. I just may need some of these in our new house (more on that later)!
