Short Hiatus

Unfortunately, Melificent will be on hiatus until Wednesday, but I have a very good reason!
The hubs and I will finally be moving into our new home and won’t have Internet until Tuesday.
So I’m happy to report that my next post will be coming straight from the new Melificent headquarters (aka; the infamous pink room); it is a new beginning, a new chapter. I can’t wait to see what it holds in store for the both of us. Glad you are all here to share it with me.

If you miss me too much (I know it can be difficult – heh), then you can check out my brand spanking new Tumblr account, Melificent Loves. It is going to act as an accessory to this blog, where I can share things that inspire me on a more “quick and dirty” basis. Happy birthday Melificent!

Melificent is a year old!

Although all my major plans fell through: no one submitted any videos (sad face), the hubs is backed up & doesn’t have time to work on a new layout for me (boo) and things have just gotten too complicated for an anniversary photoshoot, I still didn’t want my one year anniversary to come and go without any mention.

When I started this blog, it was mainly out of Livejournal withdrawals. I needed somewhere, something to write my ideas, thoughts and just general rants in. I had spent too many years with a blog and felt empty without one. I never imagined so many people would be reading about my life and my interests, much less following it religiously as some of you have admitted to doing. I also thought the idea of posting daily was really daunting, I figured it would drain me and I would eventually get sick of it and just give up. Never ever would I have thought that it would be anything but a chore. Granted, I’ve had my moments where life catches up to me and I can’t post regularly, but those have been far and few between. I genuinely love my blog and look forward to writing posts to share with all of you.

My first year has been more than I could ever dream, and I hope Melificent only continues to grow. I have a feeling my second year will be amazing – I have a lot of projects on the horizon and can’t wait to share them all with you here on the blog!

I love you all and want to thank each and every one of my readers for making me a valuable member of the blogosphere!

As most of you know, my blog will be one year old next week. When I first started blogging, I never imagined that anyone would really care to read about my life and the things I like to do, wear, see and hear. Now, I average about 300 hits a day. I know that does not make me the next Dooce or anything, but it is definitely more than I ever expected. I was kind of bummed because all the projects I had planned for my anniversary either fell through or just didn’t happen because of time restraints and then my friend Rosie shows up with this amazing cake! She is always one of the first to comment and is always singing my praises all over the Internets. She is really the sweetest and most incredible person. So thank you so much, Rosie! I know I told you a million times, but you made my month and totally caught me off guard! I heart you 🙂

Almost 1!

It’s pretty unbelievable to me, but Melificent is going to be one year old in February! I can’t tell you how much fun I have had in the past year managing this blog. It’s been my stress relief tool in so many occasions and it’s been able to broaden my horizons in terms of creativity. Plus, I’ve been introduced to so many beautiful blogs that inspire me on a daily basis as well as push me to strive to be just as amazing with my own. I’ve even gotten some really great emails from people that genuinely enjoy reading Melificent, which is so ridiculously flattering.

Like I mentioned in my 2010 wishes, I would love to give this blog more attention and hope to accomplish that in Melificent’s 2nd year in business. Kicking that off will be a redesign of the blog by the hubs next month as well as a little video project I’d like to introduce to you all here:

(1) I tend to memorize things rather than learn them. Great talent to have while in school, not so great once you are out and trying to apply those skills. This is why I am stellar at remembering song lyrics and believe School House Rocks is amazing.

(2) I suffer from situational anxiety, that is, I tend to get anxious when in a “different setting” that is out of my comfort zone. I became depressed while living in Pensacola, I threw up on my first day of work, I could barely function when I went back to grad school this past year, etc. It’s pretty debilitating and frustrating because I wish I could turn it off like a light switch. I believe change is good, but my mind and body apparently do not.

(3) Instead of having my (appropriate) boyband stage when I was in grade school with New Kids on the Block, I opted to go through it when I was 18 with *NSYNC. I will not divulge how much money, time & energy I spent on those 5 guys. Still love you, Lance!

(4) After spending the majority of my life masking the fact that I am a huge dork, I am so happy that I have become comfortable enough with myself to embrace it. It feels so nice to be able to finally be crazy, nerdy, ridiculous me!

(5) I absolutely adore meeting new people and spending time with others. I am a total people person. My husband always tells me to stop making new friends, but I can’t help it. Ever since I was a little girl, I wasn’t happy unless I was with my friends. Not much has changed.
