Things I Want Myself to Remember…

As I near the moment when I will be made responsible for another person’s life (I’m being induced today!), I have been putting a lot of thought into the kind of parent I want to be. What values I want to instill in my child – the kind of child I want to raise. I know a lot of people will be weighing in on what we should or should not do, so I want to jot down these reminders that I have learned (some the hard way, others not) as I grow older (but none the wiser, it seems).

This has been resonating very strong with me lately. I’ve had some experiences this year that have exposed me to the power of “hive mind” and “groupthink,” and its ability to make you feel guilty or shunned. Never lose yourself and don’t be afraid to make the right decisions for YOU. Now, I saw this on a professional level, but I will definitely be applying it to my new family. I know many people will have opinions, but the only one I’m going to take into account is my own and my husband’s because ultimately, we will know what is best for our little party of 3. But, again, this applies to all areas of life. Don’t let yourself be roped into making a decision (or not) because you don’t want to let people down or feel like you would be mocked, ignored or ostracized. No one is living your life but YOU and you only have one, last time I checked. Be selfish.

Review: Walgreens’ Vixen’s Kiss Lip Color Set (Maleficent)

Hey everyone!
I picked up a pretty rad lip color set from Walgreens last week and wanted to share the results with all of you! Enjoy my first makeup review on the YouTube channel and please let me know what you think! I’d love to do more of these and incorporate more YouTube action into this blog. If you like what you saw, definitely subscribe to The Fangirl Diaries channel & share with your geeky girlfriends!

ps; you will see a huge decline in posts very very soon, but please stick with me! I’ll be getting acquainted with my new baby girl and adjusting to all the new demands of motherhood. I’ll be back on schedule before you know it!

Nerdy With Children Kickstarter

nwc_kickstarter

I’ve been a fan of Nerdy with Children and their products for some time, so naturally I was excited to hear that they were trying to expand their line. I absolutely love that the way they want to do so is by providing real heroes for real kids. More specifically, rather than just focusing on fictional heroes from pop culture, they want to launch a line of tees (from onesies to adults) featuring influential figures in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math).

Being a behavior analyst, I get a chance to (hopefully) improve children’s lives every day and help shape and mold them to be better people, which is why I love this idea of introducing children to these amazing historical figures at a young age and empowering them that they, too, can make a difference. The first run of shirts will include individuals such as Marie Curie, Nicola Tesla, Jules Verne and George Washington Carver, just to name a few.

If you want to find out more, check out their kickstarter page and donate what you can to help!

What I Wore: I Know My Value

IMG_5460

Can someone start playing “The Final Countdown?” Because that’s where I’m at right now! In these pictures, I was a pleasantly plump, but happy 35 weeks. Things are starting to ache and bother, but I’m still pretty petite which allows me a little more energy and mobility than most. The hubs and I had one of our usual foodie day dates in Wynwood, and we were able to visit some pretty amazing little markets, such as Flavorish & Marky’s, and had lunch at Ms. Cheezious (do you know they now offer their sandwiches on gluten free bread???). We picked up so many delicious little treats and fantasized about having picnics with our little one in the future.

As usual, Jordan Dene’s tanks keep me super comfy. I love that I don’t have to rely on maternity and can still let my geek flag fly as often as possible. I’m loving her new line of tees – this one being a quote from Agent Carter. Make sure to check out her site – it is chock full of goodies for yourself AND the geeky little ones in your life!

Minted: Baby Paper Goods

IMG_5751

I’m sure you guys have heard of Minted, especially if you get Christmas cards from your friends and family. I know come holiday season, our house is full of beautifully designed cards from the site, but they just recently introduced baby paper goods. If you know me, you know how much I love stationery, notebooks and the such. Basically, setting me loose in Office Depot is a treat. That’s why I was so happy to work together with Minted to bring you some of their cutest goods and show you how I’m going to make them work for baby Luna (sorry for all the blockage of Luna’s middle name – we are keeping it a secret until her birth).

I absolutely loved their baby notebooks so I knew I had to have one for little Lu. I have so many notebooks scattered around my house, it’s kind of ridiculous. I actually have several in her room already, but none were specifically geared towards her first year like this one. I also loved the gorgeous floral designed cover and the extra step of personalization with her first and middle name. The notebook also fits in perfectly aesthetic-wise with her nursery (which was revealed last week – check it out), so it was an added plus! The inside of the notebook is left blank so that you can fill it with whatever musings you wish, even if it’s just feeding times!
