Being Geek Chic: Geeky Home
If you are like me, you are constantly trying to find ways to spruce up your house without going full blown renovations. This spring/summer, my goal is to give some rooms/areas of my house more love. It’s hard with a 6 month old to look after, but I’ve told myself there is no deadline and I can take my time slowly revamping our home sweet {geeky} home.
My next Being Geek Chic is going to show you how to incorporate some geeky elements into your home so that it is not overbearing and still looks classy, kitschy, rustic, or whatever your home aesthetic may be!
One way to really bring in the geek into your space without causing too much commotion is through decorative pillows. I love having just one geeky themed pillow in each room, and even outside! I love these vintage camera ones from Uncommon Goods (look through more here), this Sherlock-inspired one from Look Human, and the outdoor cover options you get choose on Society6!
Being Geek Chic: How to Style A Geeky Tee
I have decided to start a new feature on the blog where I give little tutorials, so to speak, about how to rock the geek chic look you see me donning all around this blog. I remember a friend once telling me she had no idea how girls could wear t-shirts as part of a stylish outfit, and I know a lot of people feel this way. They see tees as something to wear around the house or to throw on when you are having a lazy day. I come to tell you this isn’t so!
I’m a big fan of wearing geeky shirts out to girls nights, daytime adventures with the hubs and everywhere in between! It just takes a bit of practice and an eye for accessories to transition a tee from something you slap on to finish household chores to a totally hot fashion piece. Trust me when I say it’s easy, AND so comfortable! It’s also a perfect way to express your fandom, especially if you are picking up a tee from my personal favorite site, TeeFury!
I chose these 3 tees to style from the site, as they are three of my favorite fandoms at the moment: Sailor Moon, Jessica Jones & Star Wars (ps; I don’t care what you say about the word, Bae – I think it’s adorable).
Buzz Bag Review
There’s a new fandom subscription “box” in the ‘hood, and I had a great time reviewing it this week! Buzz Bags were created by Melissa Jenkins and her goal was to provide geeky ladies with quality fandom-inspired accessories. The bags have a different theme every month and run between $15-20. You can check out past bags and future bags here!
I got a chance to receive March’s Random Fandom bag, and it was chock full of goodies! First thing I noticed was just how many accessories you receive! There was so much crammed into such a little bag! I was shocked.
What I Wore: Negatrash
One of the many perks of being an officer for Geek Girl Brunch South Florida is being able to choose your favorite fandoms as a theme for a future brunch. I was ecstatic to finally host a Sailor Moon brunch, and had so much fun putting together my outfit! I knew I wanted to play on the whole biker gang sailor scout styling that I had seen roaming around the Internets, but take it down a notch, so that it would be more wearable and easy for me to move around in without feeling self conscious during our brunch.
I have to admit that I have a pretty amazing secret to share with you all when it comes to buying every day cosplay items that you may not wear consistently. It’s called AliExpress, and your wallet will thank me profusely for it. I know my bank account is ready to give me a big bear hug. That’s where the majority of my look came from, and if I told you the grand total – you may fall over.
