Indie Craft Bazaar: Color Your Summer

I know I have mentioned here on the blog how much I love all things handmade, local and unique, which is why I got so excited about the Indie Craft Bazaar that took place last weekend at Revolution Live. Although I was really looking forward to it, I wasn’t sure what to expect. As usual, my expectations were not only met but surpassed! What great local talent!

Not only that, but I was able to finally meet two wonderful ladies that I have known via the Internets for years: Roxy & Jojo. We had such a great time together and although I got gluten-ed (damn you, delicious Tarpon burgers!), I think it was a successful first adventure (of many, I hope).

I’m on somewhat of a shopping freeze until next month, so it was very hard not to let my shopaholic tendencies get the best of me, but I did snatch up plenty of business cards for future shopping.

So many fun pieces to sift through – I personally squee’d when I saw the Boston Terrier pillow (they are made from actual photos of pets she has photographed) and was in awe of the beautifully hand-crafted accessories at Real Vintage Elegance (look at that tiara!!!).

Lovable Friday

1. Miami’s Vixen Workout; leave it to a Miami girl to put together a 60-minute workout to booty music while rocking sky-high heels for maximum results. But seriously, this is nothing to scoff at. I have not yet attended one of these killer sessions, but I hear they are beyond fun and get your heart rate begging for mercy. Who wants to be my partner in twerk (did I really just use the term twerk)??

2. Unicorn sweater; there are few better things than allowing a unicorn to keep you toasty in chilly weather, am I right? OK, so maybe there are (like Henry Cavill for instance), but right now, it’s all about this amazing unicorn sweater. It’s a little grade school mixed with a little magic, and I clearly must have it for our upcoming European travels. Did I mention my birthday is coming up??

3. My Little Skeleton; by now, you must realize that I am a huge My Little Pony fan. I have a decal on my laptop, I went to Build-a-Bear and created my own Rainbow Dash (she is named Daenerys, naturally) and somewhere, have a collection of all my vintage ponies. So when I saw this anatomical sculpture of a pony, I had a physical reaction. Although there is no glitter, streamers or confetti, as I would imagine would make up one of these bad boys, I approve. 😉

4. Lime Crime; I don’t know what took me so long to discover this FABULOUS beauty line, but just yesterday I stumbled on the pure glory of Lime Crime and their lipsticks, nail polishes and eye makeup. Not only are they fun, wild and fantastic, but their creator, Doe Deere, looks like she stepped straight out of an anime. Does she realize she now has to be my best friend?

5. Critter flats; oh, Marc Jacobs. Why do you toy with my heart? Along with Kate Spade, I’m pretty sure they are well on their way to destroy my bank account. Look at these kitty & mouse flats! Look at them, people! Would you even wear these? They are little works of art. If someone stepped on me while wearing a pair, I think I would go postal. And wait. While searching for a link to share with you all, I discovered he did not stop at cats & mice, but also made BOSTON TERRIER flats to match his iPhone case (which naturally I own). ::waves fist in anger::

Florida Supercon

Is it terrible to admit that I didn’t expect much from our local comic book convention, Supercon? Blame it on my multiple Comic Con experiences, but I was fully prepared to walk around pulling a major McKayla. Man, was I proved wrong. Like, really wrong. I was especially blown away with the talent in the Artist Alley upstairs. I did not know Miami/Florida housed so many amazing artists that fed into the geeky culture. I mean, I didn’t even know Miami had a geeky culture, but again, I was proved wrong based on the line that snaked around the entire Radisson hotel. Color me surprised, Miami. I’m kind of proud of you.

I figured rather than just posting a bunch of pictures chronicling our experience, I would share with you all the talent I experienced by providing you with links to my favorite artists/vendors. Check ’em out, support local artists and businesses and, most importantly, enjoy!

Clockwise (l to r): Andrew Heath (we actually bought this exact Tobias print), Brian Reedy (amazing woodcut art – snagged two pieces from him), Sugar Fueled (so adorable/creepy, I can’t get enough) & Art of Danny (gorgeous split persona’s you have probably seen on Pinterest 1223426 times).

Lovable Friday!

1. Studded skirt; Who doesn’t want to feel like a rockstar when they get all glammed up to hit the town? Well, maybe some girls wouldn’t want to, but I’m not one of them. This studded skirt immediately caught my eye, even though I kind of think it looks heavy and uncomfortable (can’t you imagine one of the studs getting caught on something at the worst moment???). Either way, it looks like my rockstar nights will be nothing but a fantasy because it is no longer available. Someone call the wahhh-bulance.

2. Cuayana tunic; Living in Miami, bathing suit coverups and tunics are a way of life, especially in the summer. I kind of think this is why we don’t even give them a second look. Everyone has one, nothing special. However, this lovely one from Cuayana does not fit into that category. This linen beauty will not only suit the beaches (har har), but could do double duty as a pretty flirtatious dress for after hours if paired with some nude sky-high wedges and a high pony. Instant summer must have.

3. Batman cafetera; Something else that is part of Miami culture? The cafetera (coffee maker). Every home and office has one, and it’s basically necessary for daily survival. I mean, you’ve seen that episode of the Kardashians, right? It’s serious stuff, Cuban coffee, so naturally, it has to be made in a vessel of pure awesome. I think Batman will do the trick. In fact, the only way this could be any cooler was if it would beam the bat signal when your coffee was ready. Ideas: I got ’em.

4. Lovers ring; This ring immediately reminds me of one of my favorite Smashing Pumpkins lyrics: Carve out your heart for keeps in an old oak tree and hold me for goodbyes & whispered lullabies. We may not have enough old oak trees around to profess our love, but this sweet customizable ring will do. I think Billy would approve, don’t you think?

5. Ours decanter; I saw this adorable decanter while I was helping the bestie put together her wedding registry and I nearly died from cuteness overload. Leave it to Kate Spade to design something so adorable out of something so ordinary. I don’t care that we are no longer newlyweds. I think our marriage deserves some Katie.

What I Wore: Sunday Funday

I live for my weekends, and this one lived up to the hype. The hubs and I spent some quality time together (& checked out Man of Steel – hubba, hubba Henry Cavill), and we had some great times with friends playing card games and drinking a whole lot of wine and eating some serious Spanish tapas. Knowing that we would be engaging in some legit hang time, I knew I had to dress comfortably. This maxi dress perfectly fits the bill because not only does it scream comfort, but it’s also super flattering. Plus I love the fun summer shade of coral paired with nude. In other words, it is the perfect summer uniform.

And more importantly, why do weekends fly by so fast?
Seriously, it’s not fair.

Dress; c/o Conversation Pieces
Sandals; Gap {similar}
Shades; H&M {similar}
Necklace; Bauble Bar
Ring; Marc Jacobs {black version}
Cuff; vintage
