SDCC Parties

Now, I may be a bitter Betty sitting at home while the rest of you live it up at San Diego Comic Con next weekend, but I have to remind myself it’s for the absolute best reason: my daughter baking inside of me! For those of you that are joining the fun and mayhem, I have some great parties for you to check out by some of my fellow geeky bloggers, friends and cohorts that you won’t want to miss!

1. Geeks Go Glam Party (THURS @ 8pm); This is the best kick off party for those geek girls that want to show their fancy side. I personally love putting together outfits for SDCC when I’m attending, and this is the perfect opportunity to throw in an uber fancy one into your suitcase! Think high heels and bow ties mixed in with your favorite fandoms! Hosted by two of my favorite bloggers that I have been lucky enough to become friends with, The Nerdy Girlie and Being Geek Chic, you know you’ll be in good hands. Plus, with the addition of a performance from one of the members of the UK band, The Filthy Souls, there is absolutely no way you won’t have a good time. Grab your tickets here before they’re gone (no badge required)!

2. Fashionably Nerdy SDCC Cocktail Hour & Mixer (FRI @ 5pm); Now this is a definitely “do not miss” kind of party. Hosted by my fantastic co-workers over at Fashionably Nerdy in order to socialize with our team and the really amazing geeky designers you love! Swag bags will be given out to the first people to arrive and there will be special door prizes, raffles and a prize for the best ~Geek Chic~ dressed! Sponsors range from Her Universe to Gold Bubble Clothing, so you are going to want to get your hands on those goodies! No official RSVP or badge needed – just head over to the Grand Hyatt Grand Lobby Bar with your best party face on (and tell them Melificent sent ya!).

3. SherlockeDCC 2015 (FRI @ 7pm); Done with the Fashionably Nerdy party after snagging some amazing swag? Great! Head on over to the San Diego Public Library for the 3rd annual SherlockeDCC party! I can attest to the pure awesome of this party since I attended last year. We enjoyed amazing themed drinks, a photobooth and incredible views of San Diego from the 9th floor balcony. Again, this is being thrown by The Nerdy Girlie, Being Geek Chic & The Baker Street Babes so I figure this year can only be bigger and better. No badge needed, just pick up your ticket here.

Weekend Highlights

My bestie, Elsie, and I gorging on our Cake Shakes from Sugar Rush!

Friday night I took my happy little butt right back over to the Tamiami Truckers food court. After a few fun tweets back and forth with Sugar Rush, Sweetness Bakery’s own truck, I had to make sure I swung by for these much gabbed about Cake Shakes. They sound just as evil as they taste, trust me. This particular shake was made with chunks of their red velvet cupcakes, ice cream and a mound of whip cream. It was all sorts of heaven encased in 500+ calories. Oof. If you have one serious sweet tooth, definitely grab one of these the next time you are in the neighborhood.

I was also really happy to see my buddies, Yellow Submarine, at the event. After chatting them up a bit, I was told they would be there every week from now on. So make sure you visit them and pick up a yellow burger…or a yellow dog…or an original sin. Or one of each. Whatever your little heart desires.

A Yellow Burger, in case you need further tempting.

I saw on the event’s Facebook page that they will be moving locations this week, which bums me out a bit, since I liked it being so close to home, and I hope the move is not too drastic. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to make it this time around as I have a friend’s birthday to attend, but I hope it is just as spectacular! Maybe one of you can bring me a souvenir? 😉

Weekend Highlights

I always look forward to New Year’s after the hecticness of the holidays – it’s like my final and best Christmas present. We don’t have any traditions for NYE, only to spend it having a great time with our closest friends. Last year it was at our place, but I just wasn’t up for it this year with all our holiday spendings, however, we were lucky enough to be invited to a friend’s parent’s big blowout party at their gorgeous home in Cocoplum.

I had a great time with the most special people in our lives right now. I felt very lucky to be able to ring in the year with them all. Plus, the spread was amazing! Such a beautiful home complete with a mini champagne-filled fountain, delicious food, open bar and painter illustrating the entire landscape. See? Amazing.

Unfortunately, I wish I would have taken it easy with the shots – I’m not used to drinking hard liquor anymore since I have been in a pretty committed relationship with beer for the past couple of years. But, it could have been a whole lot worse. My only main gripe was that it put me out of commission all of New Years Day. Boo!

Now that all this partying is over and done with, I’m going back on a strict-ish diet (c’mon, this girl loves food too much) and hitting the gym to take up spinning. This extra holiday poundage is not cool.

How was your NYE?

Weekend Highlights

Saturday I finally took the plunge and got my new short, hip haircut! I could not be happier – I feel so light and fresh and modern. I went to the Aveda Institute in Ft. Lauderdale and got my hair cut by my amazing friend, Alana. She’s been busting her butt to learn and perfect the art of hair and I am so pleased with what she did. I was a little nervous about the chunky highlights, but she was so confident that they would look great that those worries quickly dissipated. I feel like a new me and can’t wait to start the summer as a blonde! I’ll let you know if what they say is true and I do have more fun, although with the summer I have lined up already, I doubt I would have anything but!

Sunday night we had our first official party at the house for the season 3 premiere of True Blood! I don’t need to reiterate what a big fan I am of this show, so just suffice it to say that I was excited (& a little nervous about having people over for the first time in our new house). It was such a success! We made it a potluck since we are fridge-less until the 22nd and wow, did people make some yummy treats! Plus, we got some fun party favors and props that really made the night a lot of fun.
My personal favorite was my jug of Fang Banger – an alcoholic concoction of True Blood beverage, Sprite and Vodka. Thankfully, I woke up this morning hangover free, but I did have my fair share of these throughout the night (& I was not the only one).
I also thought the season opener was great and really held our attention (was it all the nice butt shots?) – I am both bummed and pleased that they seem to not be following the books at all, but we have yet to see what they have in store for us the rest of the season. I totally need to get used to those typical True Blood weekly cliffhangers again – how killer was last night’s??

Have a great week everyone!

Saturday afternoon, we rounded all the pups together to celebrate Brad-Pitt and Gwen’s birthdays at our local dog park. The pups had an amazing time running around, rolling in mud and meeting new furry friends! I also was informed about a Miami Boston Terrier monthly meet-up, which sounds so fun! Thanks to all the guests and their humans for making it out – the pups loved having their buddies around as well as all the awesome gifts they received.

We say this all the time, but I really want to make it more of a habit to take the pups out to the dog park. They really appreciated the open space to run and play and were so well behaved the rest of the weekend! That Cesar Milan sure does know his stuff 😉
