Life with Luna: Hot Dog!

img_1537

Before we headed off to Disney to celebrate Luna’s big first birthday, we had a very small party at our place with close family and friends. Although Luna got a little overwhelmed with all the faces and ruckus, it was a good time. Funny to say that she handled the trip to Disney way better stimulation-wise, but it’s true! I think it is different when new people invade your own space.

Since we were going on this big trip, we decided to keep the theme with Disney and made it a Mickey + Minnie party. Again, the whole point was not to shell out a bunch of cash for a party, but rather for a trip that we could all enjoy, so I kept things minimal. Sure, you may think this isn’t very minimal, but for a party planning obsessed nut, I assure you it is. Almost all the details were DIY’ed by yours truly, including the favor bags, mason jar vases, and glitter one. However, some of my favorite decor were the prints I got from ChatBooks. They now not only offer photo books, but also these beautiful prints. You get to choose which 5 you would like printed from each of your albums. I totally love them, and strung them off the large “ONE” balloon, as well as scattered them on the table. Now that the party is over, I have no idea what to do with them, so any ideas would be great! They are so beautiful and such amazing reminders of how much she has grown up already and all the moments we have shared.

Thank you so much to everyone for your feedback on my last very heartfelt and emotional post. These little ones really know how to do a number on your feels.

**This post was not sponsored by Chatbooks at all, I just love the service and wanted to share it with all of you.

Hunger Games Themed Party

This past weekend, I threw a Hunger Games themed birthday party for one of my closest friends, Lori. We gathered a group of hardcore fans of the book series and headed to see the film at Cinebistro with matching shirts that the hubs designed before heading over to our house to celebrate. I worked really hard on all the details, with help from the hubs and the bestie, and I was so happy with the way things turned out.

As for the movie, I think they did a good job. But, of course, a movie will never be as wonderful as a book. Never. Unfortunately, I think their biggest downfall was character development. There were a lot of relationships that were not delved into as they should have been and remained pretty superficial, but the acting was absolutely amazing. Jennifer Lawrence is my girl, yo.

Crafting & Champagne Party

As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, I hosted a fun, girls-only get-together at my place this past weekend. My friends and I really love painting our nails and the majority of us have vast collections, so we thought, why not share? I paired manicures with friendship bracelets, a trend that seems to be spreading with fashion bloggers and a project I thought seemed easy enough. I mean, we all used to do these when we were younger right? Not exactly. They were way more difficult to construct than I remember, and I’m kind of embarrassed to admit that I couldn’t even make one that looked half decent. What a mess! However, I’m not a quitter, so I’m going to try to tackle one again soon – I will conquer the friendship bracelet! We all worked together while sipping on bubbly, and indulging on sweets. All in all, it was a really great afternoon and something we plan on making a monthly ritual.

Cadillac Ranch Grand Opening Party

Although CG Burgers really let me down, I am very excited about West Kendall getting another new joint: Cadillac Ranch. They tout themselves as a premier all american bar and grill offering BBQ, comfort food, cocktails…and a mechanical bull. That spells trouble – the kind I’d like to get into. And this Thursday, July 7th, I will be – and so should you! Cadillac Ranch will be hosting their grand opening party starting at 6pm with half-off cocktails (until 10pm). Even better? All money from each mechanical bull ride will go towards Autism Speaks! As if you needed extra incentive to have a go at the beast. 😉

For your free tickets, contact Joany Meurice at joany.meurice@autismspeaks.org and tell her Melificent sent you! Hope to see you there, fellow Kendallites!

Nothing is irreversible

Wow what a night!
As promised, here is my “better late than never” post about last night’s LOST party and 2-hour season opener. The first half will focus on the party and then I’ll make sure to put any spoilers or information about the show under a cut so that those who have yet to see the show won’t want my head on a platter. 😉

The party was a complete success! Almost all of our LOSTie buddies were able to make it and I think it’s safe to say that we all had a great time being little fan girls and boys together. In case you were wondering, that’s my super-duper-I’m-so-excited face in the photo above. We were about to hit play on the DVR.

lost1: Both the hubs and I made Sawyer-iffic fish biscuits thanks to this great recipe. It was really difficult and quite the mission, but I think they turned out pretty decent. And they ended up tasting like animal crackers – nom nom!
2: I made my infamous pumpkin cupcakes (recipe here) with cream cheese frosting. In order to make them Dharma worthy, I added some fun custom flags (template here) with the Dharma logo on one side and the numbers on the other. They were a huge hit!
3: The complete table setup. Plenty of Dharma rations and a little recruit area complete with party favors (Dharma mints) and job titles on labels. Our guests were able to choose what job they would like in the Dharma Initiative. I really enjoyed watching people as they picked their occupations. It was really fun 😉
4: Mini chocolates also were dressed in Dharma gear. The remainder are now at my office – they are dangerous to have laying around the house.
