Weekend Highlights

friday1IMG_4722_960

On Friday night, the hubs and I played house with our little nephew, Lucas. Since Where the Wild Things was premiering and we obviously couldn’t make it, we decided to crown our nephew as our own Max and have a wild rumpus right in my sister’s home! We had a great time with him racing around the house, playing with his extensive car collection and taking photos (obviously). He didn’t even give me a hard time when it was bedtime. Such the cutie!

Fu You!

IMG_9260

Earlier this week, I could hear the Target Dollar Spot calling my name as I ran in for some quick errands. I knew I was bound to find something amazing and my hunch was right on target (no pun intended)! I have been searching for a pair of Fu Dogs for a very very long time and although they are relatively easy to find, they tend to be overpriced (at least in my opinion). I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw a whole stack of them labeled as only being $2.50! At first, in my fit of joy, I grabbed a whole fist full of the little guys before settling on only a pair. However, I was disappointed. They were this ugly bronze color and everyone knows that Fu Dogs have to painted some sort of vibrant color to really pop in a space. That’s when I decided to undertake a fun little DIY project!

I headed to Pearl’s during my lunch hour and took one of the little pups with me. I asked one of the employees to help me select the best kind of spray paint that would really adhere to the figurine. Because they are plastic, she suggested Krylon’s Fusion, which is specially made for plastic and claims to dry in 15 minutes or less. Unfortunately, their color selection wasn’t all that extensive, leaving me struggling between the bright blue or yellow. Finally, thinking of all our current decor, I swiped the blue and headed back.

I am so happy with the way they turned out! But what makes the budget shopper in me really swell with pride is that I managed to create a hip and funky look for less than $10 total. I could definitely see myself getting hooked on all these projects when we get our new home. Painting, crafting, and creating in general is such a form of stress relief for me and I have really missed it since I ended my wedding planning (these would have totally fit the theme by the way). I really have to make an effort to be as creative as I can even though life tends to sneak up on me more than I’d like it to.

Until the next project….have a great weekend, everyone! Ours looks like it is going to be jam packed with goodness!

Weekend Highlights: Rock ‘n Roll Road Trip

friday13998960651_053134a94c

Friday afternoon we started our road trip to see Muse (& U2) play Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium with some of our closest friends. I couldn’t have been more excited – it was my first live Muse experience and although I wish it would have been a headlining show, I was happy just to be in their presence for their 8-song set. They were mind-blowing. Matt Bellamy, if you are out there, I wouldn’t mind having your tiny powerhouse British babies. The set list was as follows:

Uprising
Map of the Problematique
Supermassive Black Hole
Hysteria
Undisclosed Desires
Unnatural Selection
Starlight
Time is Running Out

It was just incredible how much energy and passion they brought to the set despite being openers. They really gave it all they had and although we were one of the only people standing, screaming and dancing in our section, I had to smile when I overheard a few people commenting how “unreal” their performance was while waiting to buy merchandise. They are my beautiful little secret, but it still feels good to know that soon they will get the exposure they deserve. There are rumors that they will be headlining their first American tour sometime in 2010 and I really hope they make it down to South Florida because I plan on being front and center. I can’t tell you what a freaking tease their short set was – I was not ready for it to be over.

And for those non-believers, here is video footage of Map of the Problematique. I filmed their entire set, but this was one of the most steady mostly because I wasn’t the one recording – Elsie was sweet enough to take over for a bit so I could be a total fangirl.

Oh yeah, U2 also played. They were OK I guess 😉

Comic-Con 2010 Jitters

comiccon

So I woke up this morning to news that Comic-Con 2010, yes 2010 people, has run out of 4-day passes with preview night. What?! This is quite the problem. You see, I already got my plane tickets to San Diego but not my passes. I also leave tomorrow to Tampa and Orlando for both the Muse concert and Epcot’s Food and Wine Festival – leaving me with no extra money to spend on buying the remaining 4-day passes (these without preview night).

Good lord, what the hell happened? I remember Comic-Con not selling out until March this past year. This is ridiculous! Here’s to hoping that some will still be available next month when I’ll be able to snatch them up. If not, I guess it wasn’t meant to be!

Like I mentioned above, I’ll be leaving tomorrow for our rock ‘n roll road trip so there won’t be any blog posts for a few days – be good and I’ll be back next week with tales of our journey!

10 Things

Make a list of 10 random/weird/funny facts about you that your readers would know nothing about.

3854133756_5508be4eae_o

(1) I tend to memorize things rather than learn them. Great talent to have while in school, not so great once you are out and trying to apply those skills. This is why I am stellar at remembering song lyrics and believe School House Rocks is amazing.

(2) I suffer from situational anxiety, that is, I tend to get anxious when in a “different setting” that is out of my comfort zone. I became depressed while living in Pensacola, I threw up on my first day of work, I could barely function when I went back to grad school this past year, etc. It’s pretty debilitating and frustrating because I wish I could turn it off like a light switch. I believe change is good, but my mind and body apparently do not.

(3) Instead of having my (appropriate) boyband stage when I was in grade school with New Kids on the Block, I opted to go through it when I was 18 with *NSYNC. I will not divulge how much money, time & energy I spent on those 5 guys. Still love you, Lance!

(4) After spending the majority of my life masking the fact that I am a huge dork, I am so happy that I have become comfortable enough with myself to embrace it. It feels so nice to be able to finally be crazy, nerdy, ridiculous me!

(5) I absolutely adore meeting new people and spending time with others. I am a total people person. My husband always tells me to stop making new friends, but I can’t help it. Ever since I was a little girl, I wasn’t happy unless I was with my friends. Not much has changed.
