Megacon 2019

Megacon Orlando and I? We have history.
My first Megacon was in 2014, just a brief month or so after I suffered a miscarriage. I cried the way up to Orlando because I felt guilty for doing something “fun,” but then quickly realized it was just what I needed. The convention scene and I have always been allies, a place I feel safe and at home in. Somewhere where I feel I can be myself without judgement. I had quite a lot of that fun I was feeling guilty for experiencing and met some lifelong friends. For this, it has always stayed in my heart.

It was only natural that Luna’s first convention be Mega, and it was last year. I had my reservations about how she would take it, but she was such a champ. Not many two year olds can say that their first celebrity encounter was Jeff Goldblum while dressed like Queen Elsa. Just sayin’.

I am a Geekie Award Winner

2015Winner-WebsiteBlog

As if the week of Luna’s birth wasn’t eventful, emotional and full of so much happiness and love on its own, I woke up all bleary-eyed for one of those early morning feedings in the hospital to find my phone being blown up by Twitter notifications. As I picked it up in the darkness, I could barely believe what I was reading. I had won a Geekie Award!!!!!

After working so hard to make this blog something special and unique during a time where everyone and their mother has one, there were no words to express how I felt to see it being recognized. I am so floored and humbled by everyone that voted for me and helped me win. I am constantly thinking of ways to make my blog interesting – not only in terms of fashion and beauty – but also by injecting a slice of humanity and reality into {almost} every post.

My number one goal is always to be real and I hope I am accomplishing that. I was worried about keeping up with posts and bringing quality content once Luna was born, but now I realize that this is not just a hobby for me. It is a passion, and you will always find time for your passions.

Thanks again for all the support because most of the time, it is my driving force. I love sharing things with you all, and by doing so, hope to help – whether it be minimally or more profound. So thank you for letting me into your lives.

You can see my silly little speech here & a list of all the winners here.

Fandom Friday: Things I Love About Halloween

Fandom FridayBrought to you by The Nerdy Girlie & Super Space Chick

If you have followed me and my blog long enough, you know I am an absolute fool for Halloween. I adore every little second of it, and although it’s a little different this year, knowing that it is near makes me tingle in excitement. What are my favorite things about it? Say no more…

1. You get to be someone else for a day; as someone immersed in nerd culture, we often want to be swept away to another world. One we have read, seen on the big screen or just fantasized about in our minds. That’s why Halloween is so special – you actually get to do this! Now granted, for those of you that cosplay on the daily, this is no treat. But for a casual cosplayer like myself, I definitely love the ability to take on someone else’s looks, personality and swag for a night.

2. You can be as ridiculous as you want to be; there are no rules on Halloween, and I absolutely love it. You can dress up as silly, slutty or basic as you want. It’s a holiday all about fun, and who doesn’t revel in that?

Fandom Friday: Real Life Geeks Who Inspire Me

Fandom Friday

This year has been very motivational and inspirational for me. I have decided to throw myself equally into this blog and my 9-5 career, and it has proven to be one of my best decisions. I feel very inspired by a lot of fellow geeky ladies that are out there girl bossing, and find myself wanting to join that elite crew. I know my blogging career is only just beginning (despite being in the game for 6 years), and I can’t wait to see what the future holds! These are some ladies (celebrities and not) that keep that driving force within me moving at full steam:

1. Megan at The Nerdy Girlie; Since stumbling on Meg via Instagram, I’ve felt like we were geeky girl soul sisters. I was lucky enough to meet her last year at SDCC and spend some time (although sporadically – it’s Comic Con afterall) with her, which only solidified that. She’s been through a lot this year, and still soldiers ahead with loads of positive energy and bigger, badder goals.

The Geekie Awards Nominee

the-geekie-awards

So I’m back from our amazing and dreamy BabyMoon in Islamorada, FL and I couldn’t have come home to better news. I found out this little ‘ol blog has been nominated for a Geekie Award for Best Website & Blog. Are you kidding me?! I nearly passed out and died. Actually, what I did do was scream and dance like a fool. After being a blogger for about 6-7 years and honing in on a specific focus (that would be geeky fashion/lifestyle) about a year ago, I can’t believe something like this is actually happening.

Once I get the information for voting, I will definitely share it with you all so you can help bring in those votes! Of course, I have all of you to thank. This blog would be nothing without your readership, support and interweb love. 2015 has been such an amazing year, I can’t really wrap my head around it.

Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend the actual awards ceremony in Santa Monica as I will be 9 months pregnant and a mere 1 week from my due date, but I’m sure I’ll find the right person to go in my stead. Excitement is running through my body like electricity and I honestly keep thinking back to a reading I had late last year. The woman looked me right in the eyes and smiled, while saying, “You are on the brink of getting everything you’ve ever wanted.” I, of course, chuckled and tossed it to the side. I was in such a dark place and found it so hard to believe that anything good could be coming my way. Now, I’m starting to think she was right after all.

Sending you all as many positive and beautiful vibes as I’ve been receiving lately!
